This morning we climbed to the top of the communications tower on the highest peak in Kenepuru Sound. We began walking the main road for about 6 kilometers until we reached the peak where the towers were located. Initially it didn't seem that steep - before long however, it was anything but! We kept climbing, and climbing. There didn't seem to be an end in sight. About an hour later I spotted a bit of blue sky and thought - here it is = except it wasn't. Another 20 minutes or so around the top of the saddle to the real top of the mountain.
The views were spectacular - everywhere you looked there was fingers of coastline jetting into the sound. We had clear views of the mussel farms and the little bachs and homes perched on the hillsides. We snapped a few photos, gulped the remainder of the water from our bottles and we were back to the lodge. It didn't take nearly as long to get down as it did up - and we were certainly glad of that.
