Dinner Cruise in Destin, Florida

It's always fun when you are on the water. We had some strong winds and the seas were too rough for the boat to go out on the Atlantic, so the boat cruised Destin Bay the entire evening. The sunset was pretty and we enjoyed seeing all the boats that were docked at the wharf. There was a private yacht show going on - and yes, there were some lovely boats out there.

Sunset on the Harbor

The boat was a nice place to throw back a few beers and chill for a while. Rain was threatening and it was a little chilly on the water. As soon as the boat docked the skies opened up really let loose. Florida has been praying for rain, so no one was complaining. We had a good time in spite of it all.

Stunt Flying in a WWII Vintage Plane

Joe took a tour above Destin in a WWII vintage plane with a aerobatics pilot. The pilot tried every way possible to make Joe loose his groceries, but was unsuccessful. The cockpit was clean and dry when they returned. Joe really enjoyed the thrill of aviator acrobatics. To see photos of the plane and Joe close up click here.

Life's a Beach! Topsail Hill State Park, Santa Rosa Beach, Destin, Florida

One of the most perfect beaches we've been to - and we plan to see as many of them as we can in the future. When we meet new friends, the conversation at some point always touches on a must visit destination. Topsail Hill State Park kept coming up over and over again. The park has been converted from a privately owned RV park to a State Park. While it is an older park it is well maintained and there are great sites to be had. Plan to book early if you want to land a great one. Ours was just ok - it required a bit of maneuvering to get into and was small, but we enjoyed the Destin area very much. Paul B. Johnson State Park, Hattiesburg, MS

Paul B. Johnson State Park is located just outside of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The park came highly recommend by our friends, Greg and Julie Wright. We took their suggestion and stopped while enroute to Florida. It is a great park, especially for families. There are lots of campsites, the lake is lovely and the weather was perfect. If you are ever in Mississippi, check out the park. To see more pictures of the park Click Here.

A Treasured Family Visit

We had the pleasure of visiting Joe's uncle Ocil and his wife Oma Lee at their home in Carthage, Texas. It has been over 20 years since Joe had connected with his uncle and we will cherish this visit. We certainly enjoyed the day, having lunch at Brac's Steakhouse and meeting Oma's son Jerry and his wife, Jean.

A Short Stay in the Hill Country

We arrived in the heart of the Texas Hill Country Monday afternoon. The weather was great and so was our RV Park.

On Tuesday we decided to go for a drive, so we put the top down on the Mustang and headed South out of Kerrville to Medina, then West to Vanderpool. This drive is breathtaking and we really enjoyed the day. We've been to the Hill Country a number of times over the years, but with each visit it just get's better and better. What an incredible place!

When you get to Medina, be sure to go into town and stop at Adams Apples, a bakery/cafe that is part of Love Creek Orchards. They have wonderful cider, cookies, jams and jellies. They also bake fresh apple pies on location and ship them all over the country. Be sure to stop by for a treat, we particularly enjoyed the apple ice cream!

We snapped a few pictures along the way. The hills and valleys on this route and particularly gorgeous, and then there were Bluebonnets. They were in full bloom and the fragrance was just thick in the air. Too bad you can't bottle that! To check out the photos of the loop CLICK HERE.

Sandfest 2007 - Day 3, Down the Drink!

To use the words of one of the Master Sculptors, the weather conditions at Sandfest this year were "perfectly horrible." The beach and sand were great, but high wind and rain proved to be a challenge. All-in-all the sculptures held up well over two days of torrential rain. Several suffered damage, but the sculptors were able to overcome the most critical damage.

The amateur sculptures were also well done. Given the weather conditions it isn't surprising that there weren't as many amatures competing as we had hoped. In any event, all creations were amazing. It would have been a real treat to see what they could have accomplished if the weather had been decent. Oh well, there's always next year.

Joe and I recommend you put this event on your calendar for next year and bring your family - you'll have a wonderful time - we certainly did.

We will be leaving Port A in the morning, but we've really enjoyed our stay.

We're off to the Hill Country!
