2007 12/15 Masons Bay Day Trip

After 3 days the weather finally cleared and we're off for more Hiking!

We took a small plane to the opposite side of Stewart Island, where we landed on the beach at Mason Bay. We were dropped off to hike across the island to be picked up at 5:00 pm by our water taxi. We've been told the hike is 4 1/2 hours - without stopping. They were right - it takes 4 1/2 hours - without stopping. It was plenty warm, but we were up to the challenge. Very enjoyable - good prep for our upcoming 3-day Routburn Track beginning Christmas day!
